What we’re establishing

Solarpunk Builders Co-op is a worker-owned construction business being established in the greater Darwin region. We’ll start with standalone homes, then expand into duplexes, townhouses, and small property developments as the crew and capacity grow.

This is intended to become a profitable construction and property-development business that provides good work and durable homes.

A construction co-op combines talents and expertise to take on larger, more ambitious, and more profitable property developments than individual tradespeople could take on alone.

By standardizing designs and details, we cut waste, reduce costs, and deliver high-quality, affordable homes that people want to live in.

We’re building for the long term, keeping ownership, knowledge, skills, jobs, and value in the Territory.

Who we’re looking for

We’re recruiting founding members across key trades and roles needed for residential construction from earthworks to auction. If you want more control over your work, are keen to build something you own, and are willing to collaborate with others, you’re exactly who we’re after. Priority roles include:

• Licensed builder
• Accountant / bookkeeper
• Electrician
• Plumber
• Concrete form worker
• Concreter / floor finisher (polishing)
• Stainless steel installer / metal joiner
• Precast / tilt-up concrete erection crew
• Painter / protective coating
• Glazier / door installer
• Landscaper / irrigation specialist
• Real estate agent
• All‑rounders and other trades

What we’re aiming to do

Our plan is to start with standalone homes in the greater Darwin region, then move into townhouses and property development as the crew and capacity grow. The aim is to:

• Use land subdivision, building construction, and vertical integration to optimize designs and capture more profit from property development.
• Build to rent first and then sell. Aim is to reduce design costs, cut client costs, and capture more value by selling homes with established gardens
• Focus on repeatable concrete formwork, modular designs, efficient detailing, and common elements to bring costs down while maintaining quality.
• Integrate solar power, water management, and edible gardens to increase energy, water, and food security for homeowners.
